Video recording of EUMOFA Talk at Seafood Expo Global 2023 is available online
A video recording of the EUMOFA Talk “Farming in water: strategies to ensure social acceptance and meet demand for high quality food through sustainable aquaculture” organized in the framework of the Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona on 27 April 2023, is now available.
2020 saw a growth of world fish production led by the increase of farmed products offsetting the drop in catches. Farmed aquatic products are among the most widely traded commodities. However, aquaculture activities are still often perceived negatively by EU consumers or local stakeholders. This EUMOFA Talk discussed the strategies implemented by EU aquaculture producers to meet social expectations in terms of sustainability and animal welfare.
A high-level panel of members of both policy makers and business professionals provided interesting insights on how the world aquaculture production represents enormous potential to supplement the quantities from the catch while alleviating the pressure on natural stocks. The panel included:
- Laurène Jolly - Policy Officer, European Commission, Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE)
- Javier Ojeda - General Secretary, Federation of European Aquaculture Producers (FEAP)
- Amyne Ismail - President, UNIMA Distribution
- Audun Lem - Deputy Director of Fisheries Division, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)
The Talk was moderated by Safa Souidi, an analyst from the EUMOFA team.
