Norway’s salmon price decline halted

Norwegian fresh salmon prices have halted their long decline, with prices rising by 2% to NOK 79.78 per kilo. Export volumes remained firm, with 18,421 tonnes in week 28. However, Norwegian salmon producers face tougher overseas markets due to consumer resistance and competition.

The Faroe Islands' Minister for Fisheries, Dennis Holm, has proposed amendments to regulations on landing fish in the Faroe Islands and mackerel regulations. The changes allow mackerel caught in Norwegian waters to be exempt from the requirement to land at a Faroese quay. The Faroese and Norway signed an agreement in 2024 to arrange fishing for mackerel, allowing the Faroese to fish a part of their quota in Norwegian waters.

Turning the tide: How Sardinian fishers are cleaning up their seas

Scientists from Cagliari University, Fisheries Local Action Groups, and Sardinian fishers collaborated to remove over two tonnes of marine litter from Sardinian waters. The project FLAGS (Fishing Litter and Abandoned Gears in Sardinia) was supported by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund. Over six months, fishers collected 2400 kg of litter, raising awareness and paving the way for future collaborations.
