New study: Sprat in the EU
The study analyses market of the European sprat in the EU, focusing on the price structure along the supply chain in Poland, Denmark and Sweden.
In 2021, global sprat catches reached 424.941 tonnes, with Denmark, Poland, and Sweden being the main producers. In Denmark and Sweden, sprat is primarily used for fishmeal and fish oil processing, with a small niche market for sprat flour. In Poland a small portion is also destined for human consumption.. Extra-EU imports are limited, and exports are mostly frozen. Canned sprat production reached 661 tonnes, with exports reaching 48.340 tonnes. The price of sprat is primarily driven by fish meal and oil production, with labour being a key cost factor.
